Security Observatory expert Cezary Mecwaldowski participated in the MIRAD project (short for Multi-Ideological Radicalization Assessment towards Disengagement) coordinated by the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in France and implemented in Poland by the Polish Platform for Internal Security (PPBW).
In addition to Poland, six other European Union member states participated in the project.
MIRAD is a European project funded by the European Commission. The main objective of this project is to promote cooperation between prison and probation services and community organizations in the isolation and reintegration of radicalized prisoners. Within the framework of the MIRAD project, prison officers were able to benefit from training in the identification, isolation and reintegration of radicalized prisoners. The project ran until the end of 2023 and aimed, among other things, to develop training focused on ideological extremism. To maximize outreach, the project used a Train-the-Trainers approach.
Such Train-the-Trainers training was also attended by our expert Cezary Mecwaldowski, according to whom the training contained a lot of relevant knowledge on risk diagnosis, the stage of radicalization of a given prisoner, as well as on the preparation and application of reintegration programs. He transferred the knowledge he gained from this training to Polish specialists. You can read an interview conducted with our expert on the PPBW website.
